Psychologist Salvadore Maddi discovered in his research that people with high stress levels who did not become fatigued or ill, shared the following characteristics; They felt in control of their lives, they viewed unexpected events as challenges rather than threats, people felt committed to what they were doing, and they maintained a sense of humor.
These individuals were highly adaptable. They possessed a strong internal locus of control and were able to successfully differentiate between those personal, professional, and environmental factors which were within or outside their control.
Armed with this information, we can increase our adaptability by leveraging those elements within our control and letting go or influencing those elements outside of our control.
